RBFAA Annual Event Weekend Recap
Last month, RBFAA members gathered in Washington, DC — both in person and virtually — for a vibrant and inspiring Annual Event Weekend. It was a full few days of reconnection, reflection, and forward-looking discussion that showcased the strength and breadth of our alumni community.
Friday: Opening Reception at the Metropolitan Club
The weekend kicked off with a relaxed cocktail reception at the historic Metropolitan Club, generously hosted by John Schmitz. Guests enjoyed informal tours highlighting the club’s rich legacy dating back to 1863. The evening also featured rounds of speed networking, giving fellows from across many years a chance to exchange experiences and spark new connections.
Saturday: Panels, Masterclasses, and Strategic Planning
Saturday’s program — hosted by Thomas Gump at Pillsbury — began with a dynamic panel, “Keeping the Bridge Strong: How Transatlantic Organizations Lead in Turbulent Times.”
Rachel Rizzo (Atlantic Council), Constanze Stelzenmüller (Brookings), and Sudha Wilp (German Marshall Fund) offered thoughtful insights on how transatlantic institutions can navigate today’s geopolitical volatility and polarization.
During “The Future of the RBFAA” session, members reviewed the association’s current position and explored three potential strategic pathways. A strong majority expressed support for pursuing a partnership with a like-minded organization to enhance RBFAA’s capacity and long-term impact.
At the Business Meeting, members approved the proposed bylaw amendments — with the exception of the “Dissolution of Organization” section, which will be reviewed to ensure the language is correct.
Last came a series of Mini Masterclasses, where Bosch Alumni shared expertise on some of today’s defining issues:
-
Liz Kosobucki – Trade
-
Trooper Sanders – AI & the Economy
-
Adam Hunter – Immigration
Saturday Evening: Gala with Ambassador Julie Smith
The gala dinner featured keynote remarks from Ambassador Julie Smith, who spoke about the enduring importance of transatlantic engagement and the role citizen diplomats play in sustaining these connections. Her reflections grounded the evening in purpose and possibility.
Sunday: A Warm Sendoff
The weekend concluded with a convivial Sunday brunch graciously hosted by Eric Opp—a perfect, relaxed close to an energizing and community-building few days.
